PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — A suspect was taken into custody Thursday morning following a SWAT standoff in Pembroke Pines, authorities confirmed.

According to Pembroke Pines police, officers detained the suspect after serving an arrest warrant at a home in the Camden Portofino community, located in the area of Northwest 108th Avenue and Third Street.

Neighbors told Local 10 News that the suspect is a military veteran who has been suffering from PTSD.

They said he was shooting aimlessly into the air two days ago.

Blink doorbell camera footage shows SWAT team members outside the home.

“He’s a human being that’s suffering from PTSD and, you know, unfortunately it got to this point,” one neighbor said. “He barricaded himself in there and they had to go and help him out. They were actually saying, ‘One veteran to the next, please come out. We don’t want to hurt you.’”

Another neighbor told Local 10 News that she heard the sound of what sounded like about five gunshots.

As officers were serving the warrant, they asked nearby residents to shelter in place due to the presence of guns inside the home.

Police did not immediately confirm the suspect’s identity or details about what led to his arrest, but confirmed that he has been charged with burglary.
