NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A 4-year-old boy has died after being pulled from a pool Friday morning in North Lauderdale, according to deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
BSO officials told Local 10 News that 911 dispatchers received a call at approximately 10:08 a.m. reporting a possible drowning involving a boy in a pool at a home near the 1600 block of Southwest 63rd Terrace.
Authorities said BSO deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene and transported the boy to Broward Health Coral Springs, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not released the boy’s identity.
“I’m so sorry for your loss. I have experienced something like this. My younger sibling passed away due to drowning, so I understand what you’re going through,” a neighbor said in a message to the family while speaking to Local 10’s Rosh Lowe.
Sky 10 flew over the scene just before 11 a.m., as Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and fire rescue crews were outside the home. Crime scene tape could be seen around the pool area as authorities continued to investigate.
Investigators said BSO Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
BSO officials said adults should closely and constantly supervise children around water, avoid distractions while monitoring them, keep small children within arm’s reach and use safety barriers such as fencing, locks, alarms or sensors to prevent access to pool areas.
Officials also recommend teaching children how to swim or float on their backs, keeping rescue equipment and a phone nearby, and learning CPR.
Broward County offers water safety information and swim lessons through its Water Smart Broward program.
No other details about the incident were immediately released.
