According to BSO, a suspect that deputies had been seeking was observed pumping gas at the Wawa, located at 6350 Stirling Road.

As authorities converged on the suspect, they said a fight broke out between him and the approaching law enforcement officers.

Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said the suspect was armed and was told to give up his gun, but when that didn’t happen, it led to a shooting that killed the suspect.

Tony said the “suspect might have gotten a shot off,” prior to being killed, but that would be determined in the investigation.

Tony said the suspect was wanted for fleeing and eluding, and indicated that deputies had DNA evidence linking the suspect to additional crimes, although he didn’t release further details about those alleged crimes.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is expected to take over the investigation, as is customary with deputy-involved shootings.
