HIALEAH, Fla. — A woman was hospitalized after her car plunged into a canal in Hialeah, according to officials.

Exclusive surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News shows the moment the car veered off Northwest 57th Avenue near 114th Street and into the water.

Hialeah Fire Rescue said the driver may have suffered a medical emergency before losing control of the vehicle. She was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

A nearby resident said he jumped into action moments after the crash, giving an officer a snorkel and mask to help search for possible passengers.

“Pretty shocking. This is the first time we’ve seen something like that,” the resident said. “I know right down the street we usually see car accidents, but that’s the minimum. This is the first time we’ve seen a vehicle in the canal.”

The driver’s condition was not immediately known.
