MONROE COUNTY, Fla. — Three people escaped injury Saturday after a driver who fell asleep at the wheel drove a vehicle into the water off Sugarloaf Key, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies told Local 10 News that the vehicle ended up about 100 to 150 feet offshore in the Harris Gap Channel.
All three occupants safely got out of the vehicle and were not injured, authorities said.
They said Anchor Towing was called to recover the vehicle.
Deputies confirmed that boats were still able to pass through the channel while recovery efforts were underway.
No other details about the incident were immediately released.
