According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, it happened outside of the Publix at 15771 SW 152nd St. in the unincorporated Country Walk area, near Miami Executive Airport.

An arrest report states that the victim told deputies he was involved in a road rage dispute with the man, later identified as Frank Domenech-Fernandez, on Southwest 157th Avenue.

The victim then told deputies he followed Domenech-Fernandez into the parking lot, where Domenech-Fernandez then approached the victim’s vehicle “holding what he believed to be a large stick in his hand,” according to an arrest form.

Authorities said Domenech-Fernandez then swung the item, which was later discovered to be an umbrella made out of “a steel aluminum material,” but the victim was able to move his vehicle out of the way, causing Domenech-Fernandez to strike his own vehicle instead.

Witness statements and surveillance video obtained by investigators corroborated the victim’s account of the incident, deputies said.

Domenech-Fernandez is now facing a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

As of Thursday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
