It happened on May 26 near the intersection of Northeast Third Avenue and 44th Street in Deerfield Beach.

One of the survivors, Antwan Brand, was ejected from a red Nissan Rogue that was left crumpled.

“I was coming north to come into the four-way stop sign at 44th Street and all of a sudden I got hit from behind; it knocked me out cold,” said Brand.

Brand, a father of two was trauma alerted to the hospital, spoke to Local 10 News’ Bridgette Matter about the crash and his injuries.

“They have to do emergency surgery when I got there to figure out where the bleeding was coming from inside my body,” he said.

Brand somehow survived but is on a long road to recovery.

He’s currently wheelchair bound, hardly able to walk and in pain every day. He cannot work, and the family of four is living in a hotel room.

“My son is 2 years old,” said Brand. “He tried to help push the wheelchair for me. Now that’s tough. It’s my job to protect him and do for him, now he takes care of me at two years old.”

Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide is investigating the fatal crash.

Fedeline Saint Cyr, 59, was the passenger in a Land Rover and died after being ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Brand said the medical bills from this life-changing incident are piling up, and he’s unsure of what the future may hold for he and his family.

The family has created a GoFundMe page to help with expenses.
