NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A fifth suspect wanted in connection with a North Lauderdale shooting that left one man dead and another injured earlier this year is now in custody, Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives confirmed Wednesday.
Investigators said Matthew Holloway surrendered to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Monticello, Florida, on Sunday. They said he is expected to be extradited to Broward County in the coming days.
Holloway faces one count of first-degree murder and multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with the May 8 shooting near the 7900 block of Southwest Seventh Court, according to BSO officials.
Deputies said they responded to reports of a shooting around 1 a.m. and found 19-year-old O’Mari Doe inside a 2020 Ford Mustang suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
They said he was airlifted to Broward Health North, where he later died. Authorities said 20-year-old Maurice Vorroto was found outside the vehicle with a gunshot wound. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Detectives said Doe, Vorroto and two other people were sitting inside the Mustang when five suspects arrived in a black Honda Accord. Witnesses told investigators the suspects got out armed with handguns and fired multiple shots into the Mustang before fleeing, according to deputies.
Deputies said a Fort Lauderdale police officer later spotted the Honda Accord, prompting a pursuit that ended after the suspects abandoned the vehicle near the 900 block of Southwest 13th Street in Fort Lauderdale.
Authorities said they previously arrested Aamir Dennard Adams, 19, Anthony Adams, 18, Amari Adams, 16, Romayne Smith, 17, in connection with the shooting. Detectives later identified Holloway as the fifth suspect.
Before Holloway’s arrest, Broward Sheriff’s Office had sought the public’s help locating him and offered a reward through Broward Crime Stoppers. With Holloway now in custody, all five suspects identified in the case have been apprehended.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Aamir Adams and Anthony Adams were being held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail.
