Lauderhill police: DUI driver crashes, runs away — leaving injured daughter behind

Police officers arrested Shane Allen on Monday in Lauderhill and he remained at the Broward County Main Jail on Friday in Fort Lauderdale, according to inmate records.

A girl was injured in a black 2015 Infiniti sedan after her father, who was driving drunk, recently crashed into a pole and fled in Lauderhill, according to a police officer’s report.

Police officers responded to the crash on Monday at Northwest 31st Avenue and 16th Street. They found the girl in the back seat of the crashed sedan, and her father, Shane Allen, running away near Northwest 33rd Avenue, according to the police report.

Allen, 40, was “stumbling while walking, had difficulty maintaining balance ... exhibited glassy eyes, and emitted an odor of an alcoholic beverage each time he spoke,” a police officer wrote, according to the report.

Police officers arrested Allen, and Lauderhill Fire Rescue personnel took the girl to the Broward Health Medical Center, according to police.

Allen remained at the Broward County Main Jail on Friday in Fort Lauderdale, according to inmate records. He faced seven charges in two pending cases.

For the crash in Lauderhill, Allen faced five charges: Driving under the influence with an unlawful blood alcohol level of .15 or higher, while accompanied by a minor, child neglect without great bodily harm, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, refusal to submit to DUI testing, and a license violation.

Allen also had a pending case on charges of battery and possession of a controlled substance, according to court records.
