LAUDERHILL, Fla. — On Saturday, Lauderhill detectives were investigating a shooting that killed 23-year-old Steve Joseph.

Corrections held Roderick Thomas without bond at the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale, according to inmate records.

Police officers arrested Thomas, 22, after the fatal shooting on Friday in the area of the 1500 block of Northwest 33rd Avenue.

Thomas faced a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and was held on a probation violation in the pending case, records show.

Neighbors Verdis Whitehead and Alsia Shakir said they heard a shooting. Shakir also heard a girl screaming. Both saw Joseph bleeding.

Whitehead said there was a woman involved in a conflict before the shooting.

“She told them she didn’t want them at her house, and I guess they came back ... and started arguing,” Whitehead said on Friday.

Fire rescue personnel took Joseph to the Broward Health Medical Center, where he died, according to the Lauderhill Police Department.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases who wants to remain anonymous to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
