COCONUT CREEK, Fla. — A massive alligator spotted near Coconut Creek High School has been safely relocated, according to the Coconut Creek Police Department.

Police shared photos of the encounter on Facebook Saturday, joking that the gator may have been eager for the school doors to open Monday morning after summer break.

The alligator was found near a canal at the corner of Coconut Creek Parkway and Lyons Road, which borders the high school.

“A gator that could’ve played left tackle on Creek High’s football team has been relocated,” the department joked in its post.

Police said the alligator measured about 10 feet long and weighed well over 300 pounds.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission assisted with relocating the animal Friday night, according to police.

The sizable reptile now has a new home at Everglades Holiday Park.

Police also had a little fun speculating about what may have brought the gator to the area, joking that perhaps the nearby canal “is like a Buc-ee’s for gators.”

No injuries were reported.
