MARGATE, Fla. — A Margate man is facing an attempted murder charge for opening fire on his brother during a dispute, according to police.

Police said it happened at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday at the family’s home in the 1900 block of Northwest 65th Avenue.

According to an arrest report, the dispute between Jermaine Hugh Hudson, 44, and his brother stemmed from the former driving the latter’s vehicle the previous night, as well as “some other family issues.”

Police said Hudson walked out of his bedroom with a gun, and, as his mother and son tried to hold him back, fired a round at his brother, which struck a “large glass object” near where he had been standing.

According to the report, the victim went into the backyard to get away from Hudson, who followed him and told him, “Imma kill your a--,” but then fled.

Police said officers surveilled the home and saw a Volkswagen SUV pulling up later that night. When they tried to speak with the driver, the driver drove away, according to the report.

The report states that officers were later able to successfully pull over the driver in the 800 block of South Rock Island Road and found Hudson “concealing himself in the back seat.”

As of Monday morning, Hudson was being held without bond in the Broward Main Jail.
