NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A 48-year-old man was arrested last week after police said he exposed himself to two minors inside a North Miami Beach apartment complex.
According to an arrest report, North Miami Beach police officers responded to the complex Friday night after receiving a report about a man exposing himself in front of minors.
Police said the two victims, ages 10 and 17, told officers they were taking out the trash at about 8:45 p.m. when they walked past Eric Leon Wilson’s apartment and noticed the suspect watching them from down the hallway with his red shorts pulled down.
When they turned around, they saw him exposing his genitals in what police described as a “lewd and lascivious manner,” the report stated.
Investigators said the children became frightened and did not want to walk back past the man’s apartment to get to their own apartments. Instead, they went outside to return to their apartments by another route, authorities said.
As they walked past Wilson’s apartment from outside, both minors told police they saw him watching them from his balcony, according to the report.
Police said surveillance video from the apartment complex corroborated the minors’ accounts. According to investigators, the footage showed Wilson watching the children as they took out the trash and showed his shorts pulled halfway down, exposing himself.
The victims also identified the suspect through a photograph they took during the incident, police said.
According to the arrest report, officers initially encountered Wilson outside his apartment and he told police he had just returned home from work.
After being read his Miranda rights, Wilson agreed to speak with investigators and repeatedly denied having contact with anyone, maintaining that he had just arrived home from work, the report stated.
According to the report, the 17-year-old told investigators that on two previous occasions she had seen Wilson watching her from the parking lot while she was in her bedroom. She was unable to provide specific dates or times for those alleged incidents, the report states.
Police said the 17-year-old provided a written statement, while the 10-year-old gave a video statement to an officer.
Wilson was arrested on charges of lewd and lascivious exhibition on a child, indecent exposure and disorderly conduct/breach of the peace.
Online records show that as of Monday morning, Wilson was being held at the Metrowest Detention Center on an $8,650 bond.
