ALLAPATTAH, Fla. — A woman who was sitting on the ground outside of her apartment “with blood on her hands and around her mouth” told a Miami police officer that her boyfriend of six years had beaten her, according to police.
Surveillance video showed Charles Anderson “suddenly approach the victim while she was seated on her assistive walker” and punch “her in the face with closed fists in an aggressive manner without any apparent provocation,” a police officer wrote, according to a police arrest report.
Police officers responded to the woman’s apartment after a neighbor reported hearing her yelling on July 24 in the area of Northwest 18 Avenue and 27 Street in Allapattah, according to a police officer’s arrest report.
The victim said Anderson had “asked her for money to purchase gas, and she refused,” a police officer wrote, according to the police report.
Miami Fire Rescue personnel took the victim, who has a disability and is unable to walk, to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for a laceration beneath her chin that required stitches, according to the police report.
Police officers detained Anderson for questioning at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Northwest First Avenue and 20th Street, and he confessed, according to police.
“The remembered that he and the victim got into a verbal altercation, which caused him to become upset,” he then “blacked out ... he put his hands on the victim ... he noticed the victim was bleeding and fled,” a police officer wrote, according to the arrest report.
Miami-Dade corrections booked Anderson shortly before 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Anderson faced charges of aggravated battery with great bodily harm and aggravated abuse to a disabled adult. His bond was $22,500.
