DORAL, Fla. — Two UPS employees in Miami-Dade County were arrested Thursday after investigators accused them of taking electronics from packages at a Doral facility and replacing the original shipping labels so the items could be sent to other addresses.
Jose Divine Fernandes Correeia, 52, of Pembroke Pines, and Ruth Cristaldo, 53, were taken into custody while working their night shift at the UPS facility at 13350 NW 17th St. in Doral, according to an arrest report.
Jail records show both suspects are facing one count each of organized fraud of $50,000 or more and second-degree grand theft between $20,000 and $100,000.
Authorities said an investigation began after UPS security, who was working with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, received reports of missing electronics, including Apple and Samsung phones, tablets and laptops.
They said Cristaldo worked as an “Overgoods clerk” at the facility, while Fernandes Correeia was a “package handler.” Both worked the night reload shift.
According to an arrest report, investigators reviewed surveillance video and saw Fernandes Correeia targeting packages containing electronics, removing their original shipping labels and taking the items out of their boxes.
Deputies said Cristaldo would then place the items in new boxes and create new UPS shipping labels for them.
They said the newly packaged items were then placed in an unload area, where they would be processed and sent out for delivery the next morning.
On Tuesday, UPS security reviewed surveillance video and watched Fernandes Correeia selecting packages and removing their shipping labels before taking the items to Cristaldo, according to the report.
Investigators said they later found one of the packages and opened it, discovering 10 Apple MacBook laptops and three Bose headphones valued at about $10,000.
They said the package was addressed to Barnes & Noble and was scheduled for delivery on Wednesday. Investigators said that package was delivered.
The following day, investigators said they again watched the pair allegedly repackage electronics.
This time, they found a package containing 40 Apple iPhones, models 16 and 17, along with two Samsung Galaxy phones. The items were valued at about $45,000, according to the report.
That package was addressed to an Amazon-related business on Northwest 33rd Street and was scheduled for delivery on Thursday, the report states.
Authorities said UPS security intercepted that package from the driver before it was delivered.
Investigators said they reviewed internal records and determined Cristaldo had created more than 198 UPS shipping labels using her Overgoods login credentials since April 2025, according to the report.
They said the labels were allegedly used on packages sent to two addresses on Northwest 33rd Street in Miami. The report states they used several company names, including Barnes & Noble, Amazon, JC Electronics and JC Auto Parts.
UPS security also found at least 10 additional packages stashed around the Overgoods area that had not yet been labeled, according to the report.
Investigators said the two employees were involved in an ongoing scheme in which electronics were removed from their original shipping boxes, placed into new boxes and shipped using fraudulent labels.
The report states UPS security believes the total losses connected to the alleged scheme exceed $100,000.
Authorities said MDSO’s Organized Retail Crimes Squad arrested the two suspects Thursday while they were working at the Doral facility.
Local 10 has reached out to UPS for a statement on the arrests.
As of Friday afternoon, Fernandes Correeia and Cristaldo were being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where their bonds were listed as “to be set.”
