“We’re literally trying to utilize every single inch,” one of the pilots said.

A doctor donated his plane for the mission, while the pilots donated their time.

EmbassAir also donated 800 gallons of fuel and hangar services to help make the humanitarian mission a success.

Jose Ecarri with the Miami Pilots Association said he helped connect the group with the plane’s Colombian owner.

“I used to fly this plane — I’m a pilot too. I got in contact with the owner — he’s Colombian — I said, ‘Hey, I need a plane to fly,’” Ecarri said.

Ender Urdaneta with Help Land Foundation said the supplies were being sent to Cali specifically for rescue teams.

“This one is for Cali — only for rescue teams. Not sending any water or any food. We’re concentrating on saving lives right now,” Urdaneta said.

Since the 7.5-magnitude earthquake shook Colombia’s western region Monday morning, rescue teams have continued searching for missing people.

In one neighborhood, Colombians were seen supporting one another.

“We are still in shock. The neighbors, the friends, those who saw us born, those who saw us grow. You look at the faces and you see sadness, disappointment. Just a hug, and wherever you look, there are tears, tears of pain, tears of sadness,” said Robinson Montoya, a resident of the Belalcazar neighborhood.

Meanwhile, five days after the earthquake, Pope Leo offered his thoughts and prayers for those affected.

“I continue to pray these days for the Colombian population who is suffering because of the earthquake,” Pope Leo said.
