PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Palm Beach County Clerk of Court Michael Caruso was arrested on Tuesday morning on charges related to child sexual abuse, according to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier.
In a post on X, Uthmeier said the arrest was made with “substantial assistance” from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and local law enforcement.
Caruso, 67, of Riviera Beach, is seeking re-election to keep the top county position that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed him to last August. Since he faces no Republican challenger, his name will not appear on Tuesday’s primary ballot.
Uthmeier said the investigation into the child sexual abuse case is “ongoing.”
“When allegations involve harm to a child, we mobilize every resource to uncover the truth and ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” said FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass. “Our team conducted a comprehensive investigation with close coordination from partner agencies. We are steadfast in protecting Florida’s children and will continue our work with the Office of Statewide Prosecution.”
A news release from Uthmeier’s office states that Caruso will be transported to the Orange County Corrections Department and held without bond pending first appearance.
Authorities said the investigation remains “ongoing and more charges are expected.”
The Palm Beach County Clerk of Court’s Office issued this statement to Local 10 News following Caruso’s arrest:
"This morning, our office was notified that Clerk Mike Caruso was arrested on serious criminal charges. We are awaiting additional information from the Governor’s office on next steps.
