OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — An Opa-locka woman is facing three felony charges after police said she enlisted her 13-year-old daughter as her getaway driver after committing a robbery at an auto parts store on Wednesday afternoon.
Opa-locka police said Aviouse Lucas, 41, walked into the Advance Auto Parts at 13400 NW 27th Ave. at around 4:15 p.m., grabbed several items without paying and left the store.
When confronted by a store employee, police said Lucas “placed her hand inside the purse area of her clothing” and said, “I have a gun and will shoot.”
Police said the employee backed off as Lucas got in her BMW with two of her children, aged 4 and 13, inside. Her 13-year-old daughter was the one behind the wheel and drove her off, police said.
Authorities said the employee provided vehicle and license plate information and they they went to Lucas’ home on Northwest 142nd Lane, finding both Lucas and the BMW there.
Police said she admitted to the robbery, having her children inside and having her 13-year-old be her getaway driver.
Officers arrested Lucas on charges of armed robbery, child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
She was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bond listed as “to be set” as of Thursday morning, records show.
