POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — A 41-year-old Miami man was arrested Thursday after allegedly communicating with a person he believed to be a 15-year-old girl and arranging to meet her for sex, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the suspect, Baran Pourtahmazeb-Sasi, allegedly matched with the girl on the dating app Bumble on Aug. 7 through Vitaly, an online group whose members pose as underage individuals to identify people attempting to exploit or solicit minors for sex.
According to an arrest report, the conversation moved from Bumble to text messages on Aug. 9. Deputies said a Vitaly member who posed as the girl told Pourtahmazeb-Sasi that she was 15 years old and in high school.
Investigators said Pourtahmazeb-Sasi continued communicating with members of Vitaly who were posing as the girl and allegedly made sexual comments, including discussing oral sex and masturbation.
According to the report, Pourtahmazeb-Sasi also allegedly told the person posing as the girl that he could “help her” learn about sex or that she could research it online after she said she was a virgin.
The report states that Pourtahmazeb-Sasi sent a photograph of himself wearing a military uniform and told the person posing as the girl that he had previously served in the Army.
Deputies said he later arranged to meet the person posing as the girl at a BurgerFi in Delray Beach. According to the report, he allegedly said he wanted to perform oral sex and “make love to her.”
Authorities said Pourtahmazeb-Sasi continued communicating with the person posing as the girl and later sent a message saying he had awakened from a dream about kissing her.
They said the two then made plans to meet at a Dunkin’ in Pompano Beach.
At approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday, Pourtahmazeb-Sasi arrived at the Dunkin’, where he was met by members of Vitaly, according to investigators. The encounter was livestreamed on Kick, authorities said.
BSO deputies then took Pourtahmazeb-Sasi into custody, according to the report.
Jail records show he was arrested on charges including solicitation of a minor, traveling to meet a minor for sexual acts and harmful material involving a minor.
As of Friday morning, he was being held at the Broward County Main Jail, where his bond wasn’t immediately set.
