MIRAMAR, Fla. — A dog died after being shot Friday in Miramar, police said.

Officers responded to the 1700 block of Southwest 87th Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting involving a man and a dog.

Police said the man opened fire on the dog to protect himself from an attack. No criminal charges are expected at this time.

A woman was also taken to a hospital for reasons unrelated to the shooting, police confirmed.

No other details about the incident were immediately released.
