FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A newly-released report reveals what led to the arrest of a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy on Monday.
Miramar police took Deputy Isaiah Williams into custody on multiple charges, including domestic battery by strangulation and robbery by sudden snatching with a firearm. BSO placed the 27-year-old on unpaid leave afterward.
Miramar police said they responded to an apartment complex along Southwest 45th Court, near Red Road, around 2 a.m. Monday. They said by the time they arrived, Williams had already left.
According to the arrest report, a male friend dropped the victim off at the Miramar home she shared with Williams. She told police Williams was upset, called her names and hit her, causing her to fall down the stairs.
“The defendant was on top of her, where he punched her in the face with a closed fist,” the report states. “As the victim turned over to protect her face, the defendant punched the back of her head and pulled her hair. The victim stated the defendant put his right hand under her neck and tightened his grasp, then lifted her off the ground by her neck.”
She fought back, telling police Williams threatened to kill her and she reached into her purse for her gun, it states.
They struggled for the weapon before Williams snatched it from her and took off, police said.
Authorities said the victim was hurt, with a cut on her lip, a bruise on her nose and scrapes to her neck.
Williams turned himself in Monday afternoon and faced a bond court judge on Tuesday.
He was wearing an anti-suicide vest. A judge set his bond at $47,500 and ordered him to have no contact with the victim, surrender his weapons and be fitted with a GPS monitor.
