CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Police arrested a man and woman on Tuesday after accusing them of ransacking the home of a Coral Gables couple killed in a helicopter crash in Kenya, stealing “several valuable pieces of artwork,” along with their SUVs and other items.
Records show the home, in the 500 block of Valencia Avenue, belonged to Henry Parra, 55, and Adam Hlavaty, 42, who were killed in last Wednesday’s crash along with five other people ― including others with South Florida ties ― in northern Kenya’s Samburu County.
Coral Gables police said the burglary happened sometime between Thursday and Saturday, after the crash.
They identified the burglary suspects as Geybert Alexander Garcia, 40, and Melany Perdomo, 24, who live together near the unincorporated Palm Springs North area of northwest Miami-Dade.
According to investigators, the pair “ransacked the residence and removed numerous items belonging to the decedent such as personal and business documents, jewelry, electronics, and artwork.”
They also stole the couple’s 2023 Land Rover and 2020 Porsche Taycan, an arrest report states. The report mentions the crash, but doesn’t state whether or how investigators believe that Garcia and Perdomo became aware of the couple’s deaths before the burglary.
Police said Parra and Hlavaty’s housekeeper discovered the heist on Sunday.
Authorities said a ping from the couple’s stolen MacBook, along with vehicle location from the stolen Range Rover, placed the stolen items at Garcia and Perdomo’s home in the 8300 block of Northwest 195th Terrace.
According to the report, after confirming the cars were parked outside of the home, Coral Gables police and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search warrant there on Tuesday.
Investigators said Garcia hid in a closet while officers found Perdomo in an upstairs bedroom.
During the search, “officers located and identified numerous stolen documents” belonging to the couple, as well as the key fob to the Range Rover, the arrest report states.
“Additionally, several valuable pieces of artwork were recovered from inside the residence, including an art sculpture belonging to the victims and valued in excess of approximately $500,000,” it states. “Officers also located several items and instruments consistent with the production and/or alteration of fraudulent identification documents and personal identifying information.”
Additionally, investigators said they found a Ford F-250 with an altered VIN that turned out to be stolen out of Indian River County.
Jail records show Garcia and Perdomo were each arrested on multiple felony charges, including burglary and grand theft auto.
Both were being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with bonds listed as “to be set” as of Wednesday morning.
Additionally, Perdomo, despite being listed in her arrest report as being born in Florida, had an immigration hold entered into her jail record.
