MIAMI — A delivery driver was arrested Tuesday, months after police said surveillance video showed him dropping off a package containing an $849 laptop, taking a photo of the delivery and then carrying the package back to his vehicle.
Yunior Orlando Fonseca-Jorge, 31, of Miami, was arrested on a third-degree grand theft charge in connection with the July 25 theft, according to a Miami Police Department arrest report.
Police said the investigation began July 27, after the victim contacted officers about a laptop that was supposed to have been delivered to her apartment on Brickell Key Drive two days earlier.
An officer responded to the building and obtained surveillance video from the property.
According to the arrest report, the footage showed Fonseca-Jorge arriving at the building at approximately 12:45 p.m. on July 25 and placing the package inside the mailroom.
Investigators said he then took a photograph of the package before picking it back up, returning to his vehicle and driving away with it.
Investigators determined the delivery had been made through Roadie, a delivery service. Police said Roadie provided information associated with the account used to make the delivery, which helped investigators identify Fonseca-Jorge as the suspect.
When a detective initially spoke with Fonseca-Jorge, police said he remembered making the delivery but claimed he had left the package in the mailroom.
After the detective told him surveillance video showed him leaving with the package, Fonseca-Jorge said he “must have lost” it, according to the report.
Another Miami police officer who had previous experience with Fonseca-Jorge later identified him from the surveillance footage, investigators said.
During a recorded interview with detectives after being taken into custody Tuesday, Fonseca-Jorge was shown the surveillance footage and identified himself as the person seen in the video, according to the arrest report.
Police said he also acknowledged remembering the incident and admitted taking the package with him when he left the property.
Fonseca-Jorge was then transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center for processing.
As of Wednesday morning, Fonseca-Jorge remained at TGK on a $2,500 bond.
