MIRAMAR, Fla. — A firefighter/paramedic with Miramar Fire Rescue was arrested Wednesday by Miramar police on battery charges, authorities confirmed.
Online jail records show Tanyla Christyanna Gamble, 25, faces charges of battery/dating violence and battery causing bodily harm.
According to an arrest report, officers were called to Fire Station 107, located at 11811 Miramar Parkway, at about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday regarding a physical altercation between two firefighters who had previously been involved in a romantic relationship for about two years before breaking up about a month ago.
Police said Gamble entered the victim’s room at the fire station and initiated an argument, which escalated into a physical altercation.
According to the report, Gamble repeatedly punched the victim, including once in the back of the head, which caused a visible bump.
Police said Gamble did not sustain any physical injuries during the incident.
The victim provided a sworn statement to detectives, detailing what occurred, but Gamble declined to provide a statement, according to the report.
A spokesperson for Miramar Fire Rescue released a statement to Local 10 News Thursday, saying Gamble has been placed on administrative leave.
“Miramar Fire Rescue is aware of the arrest of one of our employees,” the statement read. “The Department takes matters involving the conduct of its personnel seriously. The allegations are currently being handled by the appropriate law enforcement agency and remain part of an ongoing investigation. Miramar Fire Rescue is cooperating as appropriate and will also address this matter in accordance with City and Department policies and applicable personnel procedures.
“To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation and the rights of everyone involved, the Department will not comment on the specific circumstances of the case at this time.
“Currently the individual in question is on administrative leave until the conclusion and outcome of all investigations.”
As of Thursday afternoon, Gamble was being held at the Broward County Main Jail. She was expected to appear in bond court sometime Thursday.
