MIAMI — Three Miami men are facing attempted murder charges and immigration holds after police said they beat and stabbed a man who told one of them not to urinate outside of a restaurant.
According to the Miami Police Department, the attack happened just after midnight on Saturday outside of Café Honduras Maya, located at 2980 NW Seventh St. in the city’s Little Havana neighborhood.
Police identified the suspects as Jose Luis Martinez, 41; Deyton Odel Rojas, 32; and Helder Jose Rojas, 30; all of whom live at different Little Havana addresses.
According to arrest reports, a witness who was part of a group with the victim said the victim saw Martinez urinating in an alleyway and told him to stop, sparking an argument that eventually turned physical.
Police said two witnesses saw the group jump the victim and begin beating him. Martinez additionally took the victim’s knife from him and began stabbing him “multiple times” in the head and hands as the others kicked him, police said.
Authorities said the suspects “admitted to striking the victim; however, none admitted to taking the victim’s knife and stabbing him with it."
The three appeared in bond court on Monday.
Helder Rojas was ordered held without bond, while Deyton Rojas and Jose Luis Martinez were given bonds of $15,000 and $10,500 respectively.
However, Helder and Deyton Rojas, both Nicaraguan nationals, and Martinez, a Mexican national, remained jailed Monday on Immigration and Customs Enforcement holds.
