MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A southwest Miami-Dade man is facing two felony charges after deputies said he “intentionally” ran over another man at a bus station in early August, seriously injuring him, then fled.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Jay Hudson Harmon, 65, on hit-and-run and aggravated battery charges on Tuesday.
According to MDSO, the incident happened on the evening of Aug. 7 at the West Kendall Transit Terminal, located at 9155 SW 162nd Ave., a few blocks south of Kendall Drive.
An arrest report states that CCTV footage taken at around 9:40 p.m. showed Harmon driving his Jeep towards the victim, hitting him with his front bumper and knocking him to the ground.
Deputies said Harmon kept driving, “running the victim over with the passenger side front and back wheel of (his) vehicle” and left.
According to the report, medics took the victim to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital with injuries including “a right parietal laceration to his head, a perforated bladder, left tibial fracture and multiple rib fractures.”
Authorities said Harmon came back about an hour later and fessed up to being the driver, saying he purposely hit the man because he thought his son’s “life was in danger,” though no additional explanation is included in the MDSO report.
Harmon told deputies he “then drove home,” the report states, “then decided to come back to the scene after realizing what he had done at the bus stop.”
Deputies arrested Harmon at MDSO’s Hammocks District station on Tuesday.
As of Wednesday, he was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bond listed as “to be set” in online jail records.
