PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — A man was killed Thursday evening after being struck by the driver of an SUV while he was changing a tire on Interstate 75 in Pembroke Pines, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash was reported at about 5:05 p.m. on northbound I-75, just south of Pines Boulevard.
They said a 2026 Honda CR-V was traveling northbound in the outside merge lane when its 69-year-old driver attempted to move into the outside lane.
Investigators said the driver was unable to safely complete the lane change and traveled between the outside shoulder and the outside lane.
They said a man was on the paved shoulder attempting to change the rear left tire of a vehicle when he was struck by the front of the Honda, according to FHP officials. They said the man was then thrown into the outside lane and died at the scene.
Another 32-year-old man who was involved in the incident was not injured, authorities confirmed. The Honda driver also was not injured.
Authorities said all lanes of northbound I-75 were reopened by about 7:55 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities have not released additional details about the crash or identified the deceased, pending notification of next of kin. No one involved in the crash has been cited at this time.
