MIAMI — An Amazon cargo plane went off a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon.
A Boeing 767 cargo plane overran a runway at MIA around 2 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said five people were killed and five others were injured and hospitalized. Three of the injured are in critical condition, she said during a press conference.
Officials said the flight originated from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, officials said.
According to information from MIA, Prime Air flight 7598 was disabled after going off the northwest end of the airport’s diagonal runway.

A ground stop was issued, and all runways were closed following the crash, officials said.

Officials with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said that over 60 units were responding to the scene. Administrators with MIA said passengers with flights scheduled on Sunday should check with their airlines for flight status before heading to the airport.
