NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — A second arrest has been made in connection with an armed home invasion robbery that police say targeted a paralyzed man at a North Miami apartment earlier this year.
North Miami police identified the second suspect in an arrest report obtained by Local 10 as 32-year-old Brandon Marquez Flint, who investigators said goes by the nickname “Twin Twin.” They said Flint, of Miami-Dade’s Gladeview neighborhood, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the July 9 robbery.
According to the report, the robbery happened around 3:30 a.m. at an apartment in the 800 block of Northeast 121st Street.
The victim, who is paralyzed from the waist down and requires a motorized scooter for mobility, was inside the home with another person when the robbery occurred, the report states.
As the second victim was leaving the apartment, an armed man, who police identified as Jamarcus Malcolm Brooks, 27, of West Park, rushed through the open front door, pointed a black handgun at the victim and stated, “Give me the money and the weed or I shoot you and that white b----,” according to the report.
The second victim then fled the apartment and called police from a nearby location, the report states
Police said Brooks then “forcibly removed” the victim from his motorized scooter, tied his hands behind his back with a white USB charging cable and dragged him into a bedroom, where he ransacked the room, the report states.
They said Brooks stole a black bank bag containing approximately $2,000 before fleeing through the rear door as officers arrived in the area.
Police said their investigation eventually led them to Brooks who was arrested in July and accused of helping plan the robbery.
According to Brooks’ arrest report, he admitted to being involved in a plan to set up the victim to be robbed.
Brooks told investigators the victim was “known to have large amounts of money and marijuana and that those involved in the plan knew he was paralyzed from the waist down,” the report states.
Brooks also told investigators the victim would have been an “easy lick,” a term he described as meaning an easy robbery, according to the report.
During the investigation, Brooks consented to a search of his cellphone, according to the report. Investigators said they found communications with a contact saved as Twin Twin that was associated with a telephone number previously provided by the second victim as belonging to an individual she knew as “Brandon.”
Cellphone data showed that at about 3:17 a.m., just minutes before the robbery, Brooks sent “Flint a text message stating, “Let me know when she coming out?” the report states.
According to the report, Flint responded with a thumbs-up emoji at about 3:27 a.m. Police said the armed home invasion occurred moments later as the second victim was leaving the residence.
Shortly afterward, Brooks also sent Flint the address of the victim’s apartment, the report states.
Later that same day, Brooks sent another message to Flint stating, “Make sure she don’t forget 6ft long dreads mouth full of golds,” according to the report.
During an interview with police, Brooks also made additional statements about Flint’s alleged involvement, the report states.
Police said Brooks eventually identified Flint as Twin Twin and Flint later told investigators, “I didn’t come to Miami without instructions.”
The report states Brooks also told investigators that after fleeing the residence because of the police response, he remained in the surrounding neighborhood and was later picked up by Flint and Flint’s girlfriend.
Investigators said they reviewed law enforcement databases and recent reports and determined the telephone number associated with Twin Twin belonged to Flint. Cellphone records obtained during the investigation also corroborated communications between the two men, police said.
Based on the investigation, police said there was probable cause to believe Flint knowingly participated in the planning, coordination and facilitation of the armed home invasion robbery.
Flint was located at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday at 1839 Northwest 74th Street by North Miami police crime suppression detectives, according to the report.
As of Wednesday, Flint was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, while Brooks was being held at the Metrowest Detention Center. Their bond amounts weren’t immediately set.
