MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — David Armstrong has resigned as president of St. Thomas University after eight years leading the private Catholic university in Miami Gardens, the school announced Tuesday.
School officials confirmed that Armstrong and St. Thomas jointly agreed to his departure.
In a statement to Local 10 News, the university thanked Armstrong for his contributions and said it wished him well in his future endeavors.
The resignation follows an investigation into allegations that Armstrong violated university policy. According to the Miami Herald, Armstrong had been placed on leave while the university investigated the claims.
Rev. Rafael Capó, who serves as the university’s vice president for Mission and Ministry, will oversee the duties of the president during the transition, according to university officials.
Armstrong became president in 2018 and led the university for eight years.
The university has not provided additional details about the circumstances surrounding Armstrong’s resignation or the policy investigation.
