HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — A 25-year-old Fort Lauderdale woman was arrested Wednesday after police accused her of trying to use another person’s driver’s license and credit card to purchase an $8,000 Rolex watch at a Hollywood jewelry store earlier this year.
Isabella Jewels Castillo was arrested by the Hollywood Police Department in connection with the May 5 incident at Mint Jewelers By Boodaddy Diamonds, located at 4907 Sheridan St., according to an arrest report obtained by Local 10.
Police said the store’s owner reported that a woman, later identified as Castillo, attempted to purchase an Oyster Perpetual Rolex valued at about $8,000 using a credit card and a Georgia driver’s license bearing a different name.
When an officer asked Castillo whether the name on the driver’s license was hers, she initially said “yes” but then identified herself as Isabella Castillo, according to the report.
Police said Castillo acknowledged knowing that the credit card and driver’s license were fraudulent. She told investigators that she received the documents from a man she met at the Liv nightclub in Miami, according to the report.
The report states that Castillo claimed the man told her she could use the credit card to go shopping. She told police she communicated with him only through Snapchat under the username “Paperpapi11” and did not know his real name, according to the report.
The report states that the jewelry store owner also told police that about 30 minutes before Castillo arrived, another woman had come into the store and attempted a similar Rolex purchase. The activity raised the owner’s suspicions, and he called 911, police said.
Investigators said they called the person whose name appeared on the Georgia driver’s license. That woman told police she had never authorized anyone to use her identity or driver’s license information, according to the report.
Police said they also contacted the credit card holder, who said he had not given anyone permission to use the card and wanted to pursue charges against Castillo.
A records check showed Castillo had a history of grand theft, although the arrest report did not provide additional details about those cases, police said.
Jail records show Castillo is facing one count each of grand theft of less than $10,000, larceny of a credit card and fraudulent impersonation or possession of identification belonging to another person without consent.
As of Thursday morning, she was being held at the Broward County Main Jail on a $10,000 bond.
