HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. — Four people were taken into custody Thursday night after a ShotSpotter alert led to a police chase that began in Hallandale Beach and continued outside the city, authorities said.

According to the Hallandale Beach Police Department, officers responded to the 500 block of Northwest Fifth Street Thursday following a ShotSpotter alert indicating possible gunfire in the area.

As officers were responding, police said they spotted a vehicle believed to be connected to the incident leaving the area at a high rate of speed without its headlights on.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leading police on a pursuit that continued outside Hallandale Beach, according to the department.

Police said four people associated with the vehicle were ultimately taken into custody. They were identified as 20-year-old Tarrell Greene, 21-year-old Devon Halloway, 21-year-old Adrian Knighten and 19-year-old Ashton Jackson.

During the incident, two people fled on foot at separate locations, authorities said.

One was apprehended following a foot chase, while another was taken into custody in Fort Lauderdale with assistance from a police K-9, authorities said.

Police said one of the people taken into custody was found with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the arm and hip/groin area and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

No officers were injured.

Detectives are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the involvement of those detained.

The investigation remains active, and police said additional charges may be forthcoming.
