DORAL, Fla. — A routine hotel stay took a frightening turn for a Doral couple when they woke to strange movements in their room and found an unexpected visitor, according to an arrest report.
Ritchel Calvaire, 25, of North Miami, was arrested Thursday by the Doral Police Department after officers said they found him inside the couple’s room at Provident Doral, located at 8820 NW 58th St.
The couple told police they had checked into the room at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, closed the blinds to the rear sliding glass door and went to sleep, according to the report.
In the early hours of the following morning, the woman said she woke up after “feeling movement near the bed,” the report states.
She went back to sleep but told police she again felt movement coming from underneath the bed at about 6:30 a.m.
About an hour later, while checking under the bed to make sure she had not left or misplaced any belongings, she said she saw Calvaire hiding there, police said.
The couple immediately left the room and sought help from property security.
When a responding officer arrived, he found Calvaire under the bed inside the bedroom and took him into custody, according to the report.
Police said Calvaire entered the occupied hotel room without permission at an unknown time by “jumping over a balcony fence and entering through a rear sliding glass door.”
The report states Calvaire “concealed himself stealthily underneath the victims’ bed while the victims remained asleep inside the room throughout the night.”
Calvaire had previously been a guest at the property and had two separate reservations at the hotel, according to the report.
A property security manager told police that Calvaire checked out Aug. 31 and was instructed not to return.
The manager said Calvaire came back to the property about two days later, at which point security gathered belongings he had left behind and escorted him off the property.
After his arrest, Calvaire was read his Miranda rights and refused to speak without an attorney present, according to the report.
Jail records show Calvaire is facing one count each of burglary of an occupied dwelling and resisting an officer without violence.
As of Friday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
