Boy, 2, shot in head outside Miami home

Grandmother says boy recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital

MIAMI – A boy was shot in front of his home early Sunday morning in Miami.

The drive-by shooting happened outside a home at 825 NW 75th St.

A neighbor told Local 10 he heard the gunshots, ran outside and saw the boy being attended to by paramedics.

"It didn't look good to me," Ricky Lester said.

The boy, who turned 2 Monday, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

His grandmother, Truda Hanna, said he was struck in the back of his skull. She said the bullet just narrowly missed his brain.

"It was a close call," Hanna said.

Hanna said her grandson is now recovering after surgery. He was expected to make a full recovery.

"I was thankful to God that he wasn't going to be in a coma or that he was going to be slow," Hanna said.

Police are still searching for the shooter.

"When it hits your home, that's when it hurts the most, and I want to know if they would feel the same way that I feel," Hanna said.
