KENDALL, Fla. - Five lucky Labrador puppies surrendered to Miami-Dade Animal Services will earn their wings this Saturday morning thanks to Pilots N Paws.

The animals flew out of Tamiami Airport, bound for Tampa.

Pilots N Paws was founded in 2008 by Debi Boies and pilot Jon Wehrenberg. The idea first took flight when Jon agreed to help Debi by flying a rescued Doberman from Florida to South Carolina, to save the dog's life.

Today, their website provides a forum for private pilots. Their goal is to fly animals from crowded shelters to locations where they would be most likely to find forever homes.

Today the organization has 3,168 pilot volunteers and 10,551 volunteers who save thousands of lives.
