1 dead, 2 hurt in Fort Lauderdale construction accident

Police say beam fell on workers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – One worker is dead and two others were injured in an accident at a Fort Lauderdale construction site Monday morning.

It happened shortly before 8 a.m. in the 2600 block of South Andrews Avenue.

Fort Lauderdale police said a large concrete beam fell, striking three workers.

One of the workers was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center. Two others were also taken to the hospital. One of them was listed in critical condition.

The construction site is the future home of a BMW dealership.

Police and the Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration are investigating the accident.

The identities of the victims have not been released.
