Fort Lauderdale the least safe city in America, report says

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Congratulations, Miami. Despite the perception nationwide, you are not considered to be the least safe city in the U.S.

But Fort Lauderdale, we need to talk.

According to a new report from Wallet Hub showcasing the Safest Cities in America, Fort Lauderdale earned the dubious distinction of being the least safe among the most populated cities in the country.

The analysis used 35 metrics among three key dimensions to determine the rankings.

  • Home & Community Safety
  • Financial Safety
  • Natural-Disaster Risk

The metrics used include Presence of Terrorist Attacks, Murders per Capita, Poverty Rate and Hate Crimes per Capita.

When all was said and done, Fort Lauderdale finished 182nd out of 182 cities. Dead last.

The city ranked worst in Most Traffic Fatalities per Capita and near the bottom in the Lowest Percentage of Households with Emergency Savings category. Miami, Hialeah and Pembroke Pines also ranked low in the latter category.

Before Miami gets too big for its britches, know that the Magic City did not fare much better, coming in a less-than-robust 144th.

For the record, Nashua, New Hampshire was declared to be the safest city in the U.S., but then again, what ever happens in New Hampshire?
