TAMARAC, Fla. – Two months after Jordan Coleman's body was discovered inside a parked day care SUV in Tamarac, his family told Local 10 they continue to struggle with his death.
On Thursday, his mother and grandmother spoke about the incident after police arrested Paris Ward, 19, day care owner Cecily Roberts, 43, and her daughter, Camille Gordon, 20.
Roberts and Gordon were charged in the death of the 4-year-old boy on Monday after being found and arrested in New York.
"A piece of me is gone. Never to be replaced," said Melanie James, Coleman's grandmother.
"It's hard coming home and not seeing Jordan, his smile. He was the life of the house. He was the one child who had four people to his command," said Fantasia Goldson, the boy's mother.
The indictments for Roberts and Gordon were unsealed Wednesday, but were not immediately available to the media, according to the Broward State Attorney's Office.
Detectives said Ward was behind the wheel of the Toyota Sequoia that transported Coleman and several other children from the 3 C's Day Academy in Sunrise to an apartment complex in Tamarac on August 1.
Ward is accused of letting all of the children out when they arrived at the complex, but forgetting Coleman inside.
Goldson said she is outraged to know her son was left alone in a sweltering vehicle. According to an arrest report, doctors said Coleman's body temperature reached 108 degrees.
"When he was baking in that car, when his brain was frying, where were you? Sleeping?" Goldson said.
The 3 C's Day Academy has closed.
Detectives said Roberts and Gordon were operating another day care center in Brooklyn before they were arrested.
Coleman's family is represented by attorney Stuart Grossman. Goldson has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the 3 C's Academy.
"You left. You moved on with your life. You went and you opened up a day care after you killed a baby," said James.
"No mother should bury her child," said Goldson.
