MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Police are searching for a group of would-be burglars after a man was shot outside his southwest Miami-Dade County home Tuesday morning.
Miami-Dade police said three people were trying to steal the man's motorcycle outside his home at Southwest 42nd Street and 99th Court. When the victim went outside armed with a gun, a struggle ensued with one of the thieves for the firearm.
The victim, later identified as Andres Fernandez, 24, was shot in the leg.
Police said another resident heard the commotion and came outside with another gun. He fired at the group of burglars, who took off in their getaway car.
Fernandez was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. He was listed in stable condition.
