3 transported after shooting at Opera Tower in Miami

Three men transported to hospital; 1 in serious condition

MIAMI – Police are investigating after three people were shot Sunday morning at the Opera Tower in downtown Miami.

The incident happened after 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the residence at 1750 North Bayshore Drive.

According to Miami police, three black men have been transported by Miami Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center after the incident at the high-rise apartment building.

Investigators said two of the wounded men were located in the building's lobby and once there, officers found a third man on the 30th floor.

Police said two of the men are listed in stable condition, while the third man is undergoing surgery and is listed in serious condition.

Detectives said they will eventually question the men at JMH in hopes of trying to piece together what happened. Additionally, detectives said they aren't sure if the gunman was among the three who were shot and if the three men even live at the high-rise complex.

Local 10's Carlos Suarez reports cell phone video captured the scene as a trail of blood poured out of the elevators and into the lobby of the posh Opera Tower.

"I got sick to my stomach," said resident Yasmin Mattox.

Police said the man on the 30th floor had banged on doors yelling for help.

"We don't know exactly where it all started since we have five different crime scenes," said Miami police officer Kenia Reyes. "We have different floors where supposedly the shooting may have taken place and the stairwell."

People who live in the 55-story building walked out of their apartments unaware of what happened.

"I saw blood on the elevator when they opened it," said Mattox. "There were droplets of blood all over the floor."

A single service elevator was left on, leaving people to use the stairs. One woman snapped a picture of blood (pictured, right) that marked the 16th floor where police believe the shooting took place.

"It's a little startling, especially since you didn't know about it," said resident Jesse Lockwood. "All of a sudden, you just came down and you couldn't go through the lobby because of the blood on the floor."

"It's just sad because it's relatively a nice building and area and obviously, love the city," said Mattox. "That's why I live here."

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
