MIAMI – The two alleged victims of a shooting in a Miami Kmart parking lot are facing grand theft auto charges, police said.

Detectives said Martinez stepped outside the car in an attempt to steal a second vehicle, while Kontorosvky served as a lookout. While the second theft was taking place, detectives said an armed black man walked toward the men and fired multiple shots.

Martinez was shot in the head and crashed the first vehicle into a tree while trying to escape. Police said he then ran to a nearby house to call for help.

Kontorosvky stayed at the scene and flagged down a responding police officer.

Martinez was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Kontorosvky was arrested and charged with grand theft auto. Detectives said Martinez will be charged once he is released from the hospital.

Police are still searching for the gunman.
