MIAMI - Free concerts, fireworks, and a huge orange drew thousands to Downtown Miami on New Year's Eve.
At midnight, Big Orange makes the 400 foot climb to the top of the Hotel Intercontinental followed by a fireworks show over Biscayne Bay.
Organizers estimate 150,000 people will turn out for this annual event.
This is the 25th year Big Orange rises to the top of the hotel to ring in the new year.
"It was my idea. The big apple was always coming down. I thought this would be great," said Monty Trainer, the chairman of the Greater Miami Host Committee.
Trainer said it was his idea 25 years ago to have the orange go up instead of come down at midnight.
This year, the orange has new animated lighting on its face.
Besides a lot of food and fireworks, Ludacris was scheduled to give a free concert at Bayfront Park.
