Man arrested in shooting death of Miami teen

Everton Demetrius Ramsay, 19, arrested Wednesday on second-degree murder charge

MIAMI – A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a teenager in Miami on Labor Day.

Everton Demetrius Ramsay was arrested Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder and carrying a concealed firearm.

Police said Ramsay shot Maurice Harris Jr., 17, multiple times while the victim was standing outside a home in the area of Northwest 54th Street and 13th Avenue. Harris was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to an arrest report, officers were conducting surveillance outside a home at 5470 NW First Place when Ramsay got into the front passenger seat of a Nissan Altima.

Officers ordered Ramsay to get out of the car, but they said he placed his hands underneath the driver's seat to hide a revolver.

"I am proud of the work of the Miami Police Department and the community in bringing us to the first steps of justice in this tragic situation," Miami Police Chief Rodolfo Llanes said.

The victim's father, Maurice Harris Sr., was shot and killed in 2013 while trying to protect his family during a home invasion.

The younger Harris had just started his junior year at Miami Northwestern High School when he was gunned down.

A motive for the shooting has not been released.
