MIAMI - A man accused of holding a homeless woman hostage inside his Miami home was denied bond.

James Myles, 25, made his first appearance before a judge Thursday morning.

According to detectives, Jazzima Barnes, 19, met Myles through an online dating site and made plans to visit him over the weekend.

Detectives said Myles did not allow Barnes to leave the home at 26221 SW 123 Ave.

Barnes eventually called 911 from her disconnected cellphone Wednesday morning, because Myles' home did not have a land line. After speaking to a dispatcher for several hours, officers were able to locate her and arrest Myles.

Prosectors said the 911 call is evidence against Myles, because the complaint officer heard him beat Barnes over the phone.

Myles asked the judge to allow him to be checked into a mental hospital, because he said he hasn't been taking his medications for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

The judge denied his request.
