Rainbow tributes to Pulse shooting victims glow during Miami Beach Gay Pride

SoBe celebration of LGBTQ love begins with tribute to 49 victims of hate

MIAMI – This weekend several buildings in Miami Beach and downtown Miami will feature glowing rainbows in memory of the 49 victims of last year's massacre in Orlando. 

Mario Perez, a survivor of the Pulse Nightclub shooting, marked the beginning of The Miami Beach Gay Pride 2017, a three-day event meant to celebrate the LGBTQ community with social gatherings and a Sunday parade on Ocean Drive.

On Thursday, Perez was a part of the Pride Lights the Night's flip the switch ceremony in front of the 13th-floor office tower at the intersection of Lincoln Road and Washington Avenue. He lost his best friends, Mercedez Marisol Flores, 26, and Amanda Alvear, 25, in the June 12, 2016 shooting.

The rainbow will also be on display at the 1111 Lincoln Road parking garage in South Beach. And there were also tributes in downtown Miami at The Freedom Tower, The Miami Tower, The AmericanAirlines Arena and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.
