FORT PIERCE, Fla. - A man who tried to run from police after a chase, left his 4-month-old baby behind in the car, according to police in Fort Pierce.

Officer Todd Warner says the driver was speeding down wet roads trying to get away.  Video mounted inside the patrol car captured the chase.

At times there was so much rain it was hard to see the car in the distance.

The chase came to a crashing end a few minutes later and the driver jumped out and ran away.

When Warner looked inside the crumpled car he found the 4-month-old baby in the front seat.

"We find this baby in the car, the baby is not tethered in, not even strapped into the car seat," said Sgt. Dennis McWilliams with the Fort Pierce Police Department.

In the video Warner can be heard trying to comfort the crying baby.

Police said they found a large bag of marijuana in the back seat.

"I just think the whole thing is unconscionable. For him to do this is awful," McWilliams said,

Eventually police found the driver, Kent Canty, 27.  He was booked Wednesday.

Canty is being held under $205,500 bond in the St. Lucie County Jail. He is charged with domestic violence, driving while license suspended, fleeing an accident with injury, reckless driving, child neglect, and marijuana possession.
