Sen. Marco Rubio dismissed from jury duty in Miami

Republican spent his time watching 'We Bought a Zoo'

MIAMI – It's back to Washington for U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., after a brief trip to Miami to perform a civic duty.

Rubio arrived at the Richard Gerstein Justice Building on Wednesday morning to report for jury duty.

"I got my summons right here, so we're ready to go," the senator from West Miami told Local 10 shortly after arriving at the courthouse.

Hours later, Rubio was dismissed.

Still, Rubio said he did not mind making the trip to South Florida.

"This is my obligation," Rubio said. "I'm a citizen before I'm a senator, and I'm a proud citizen of Florida, so I'm happy to make myself available."

Others who were called for jury duty appreciated that Rubio took the time to report for jury duty.

"I did my part and he did his part," Lester Herrera told Local 10. "He's an important guy, so if he can do it, I can do it."

When asked how he spent his time waiting, Rubio said he watched "We Bought a Zoo."
