Surveillance video shows fatal hit-and-run in Miami Beach

SUV strikes partially blind man after he gets off bus

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Miami Beach police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who left a 48-year-old man dead.

The fatal hit-and-run happened about 3 a.m. Saturday near Collins Avenue and 67th Street.

Newly released surveillance video from a nearby hotel shows a speeding SUV hitting Alfredo Rodriguez, who then rolls over several times in the street. The SUV never slowed down as it continued north on Collins Avenue.

Witnesses rushed to help Rodriguez until paramedics arrived.

Sgt. Bobby Hernandez said Rodriguez, who is partially blind, had just gotten off a bus after working all night with his wife at a South Beach restaurant.

Investigators believe the SUV should have front-end damage.

Rodriguez was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. His wife told Local 10 News that he died Monday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the identity of the driver is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
