SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – Zoo Miami is mourning the death of an endangered tiger.

Zoo Miami Communications Director Ron Magill reported that Tevy, a 12-year-old Malayan tiger, was found dead on Monday morning.

Magill said Tevy suffered from advanced liver failure and had been very weak in recent weeks.

Tevy was born in Feb. 2000 at the Cincinnati Zoo. She arrived at Zoo Miami in Nov. 2010.

Magill said Tevy's death is especially difficult because they had hoped to mate the endangered tigress with Hati, a male Malayan tiger at Zoo Miami.
