Maintenance man accused of sexually assaulting woman in Clevelander Hotel elevator

Miami Beach police: Woman woke up on hotel's rooftop completely naked

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Miami Beach police arrested and charged a maintenance man with sexual battery after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in the elevator of The Clevelander Hotel.

The hotel confirms Eberto Medrano Ramirez is not an employee at the popular South Beach business but does work for a company contracted to do work there.

Police told Local 10 the victim woke up early Saturday morning on the hotel's rooftop completely naked.

Officials said they are working to determine if she was drugged or highly intoxicated.

Ramirez allegedly found the victim on the rooftop and they headed to the elevator together. The victim claims that is when Ramirez sexually assaulted her.

Police said the woman went to her room afterwards and called authorities around 6 a.m.

Ramirez was arrested shortly after and the victim was transported to the hospital to be checked out.

"The Clevelander Hotel is aware of an alleged assault in the early morning hours," the hotel said in a statement. "As always, we are fully cooperating with the Miami Beach Police Department to fully investigate the situation. We do know at this time that no Clevelander associates were involved in the allegation. We will continue to work with local authorities as investigation is ongoing."

Police are looking to see if this was a crime of opportunity and to determine if there are any others involved.

Ramirez's bond was set at $10,000.
